Still Not Over It

Been thinking. In my opinion, we lost more than a game last week in Madison. With it went the opportunity run the table in the farewell tour of the Old Big Ten. And this Buckeye thinks the days of an undefeated, untied, Big Ten Champion, are going the way of a Tiger home run and the great Ernie Harwell, both now "Long Gone." So it still hurts to think what could have been one more time. For the times they are a changing...

When you look at the New Big Ten, with what Nebraska brings, and add that to improved facilities at a lot of the other schools, and throw in another league game played between the top two teams, well - the road to undefeated just got a whole lot tougher. I just don't think you are going to see that many undefeated seasons anymore. Darn it still hurts to have let a chance at one slip away. Come gather 'round people, Wherever you roam, And admit that the waters, Around you have grown...

Anyone who doubts that should read some of my research I have been doing for my other book on Nebraska and its tradition. If there is any place in the Big Ten that comes close to the atmosphere at the Horseshoe, game day in Lincoln, Nebraska, will be that venue. Those folks follow their team with all the passions of the Buckeyes. Come writers and critics, Who prophesize with your pen, And keep your eyes wide, The chance won't come again...

Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State and now throw in Nebraska... they are all going to be tough year in and year out. And of course eventually, Penn State and that place up north that plays in a big hole in the ground will both be back. It ain't gonna be your Big Two and Little Eight gauntlet anymore, and I hope Buckeye Fans understand how special it was to have been around for the Ten Year War. As the present now, Will later be past, The order, Is rapidly fadin'...

For the times they are a changing...
